TriplePundit.com caught up with me at SXSWEco a few weeks ago, and asked about using Twitter for thought leadership development. Especially for the sake of moving the sustainable business cause, I love to talk about its power (as you’ll see).
What I hope comes across in this video is that Twitter (or social media, in general) is not only a communications or marketing strategy tool. It is also an as-yet underutilized way to develop influence as a thought leader, and to elevate and amplify the industry conversation. The little known fun of it is that it is all about human-to-human connection.
Those who follow a particular leader on Twitter have the chance to get to know him or her as a smart, authentic, engaging individual. There need be no marketing “message” around their persona. Done well, what comes across through Twitter engagement is an amazing reflection on the brand or organization behind the leader, however indirect.
Helping people get comfortable and learn to use social media this way is my passion.
